Broomfield Beats Douglas County on Powerful Performance From Ireland

Ireland Heer hit two home runs and drove in seven as Broomfield defeated Douglas County 16-6 on Saturday. Heer homered in the fifth and third innings. Broomfield opened the scoring in the first after Heer singled, scoring one run. They added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Koko Pottorff hit into a fielder’s choice, and Jenna Kapelke doubled, each scoring one run. The Eagles added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning on four hits. Heer homered to center field, scoring two runs, and Ella Anderson grounded out, scoring one run. Broomfield scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Heer hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Maleea Taga singled, scoring one run, Elyana Braly singled, scoring one run, and Anderson singled, scoring two runs. Broomfield Varsity Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth on a home run to center field by Heer. Hailie Fiala earned the win for the Eagles. They surrendered eight hits and six runs (five earned) over six innings, striking out one and walking one.
Broomfield piled up 15 hits in the game. Kiley Wheaton and Heer were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for the Eagles. Braly and Taga each collected multiple hits. Broomfield had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Anderson and Malia Zufall led the team with two walks each. Wheaton and Braly each stole multiple bases. They ran wild on the base paths, amassing six stolen bases for the game and turning one double play.
