Ireland Heer's clutch hitting propels Broomfield past Cherry Creek
Ireland Heer drove in five runs on one hit to lead Broomfield past Cherry Creek 10-5 on Thursday. Heer hit a home run to center field in the fifth scoring three, hit a sacrifice fly in the first scoring one, and hit a sacrifice fly in the third scoring one. The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Kiley Wheaton singled, and Heer hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. They added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Mailee Blenman tripled, and Koko Pottorff hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Broomfield added one run in the third after Heer hit a sacrifice fly. Heer homered to center field, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth for the Eagles. Heer earned the win. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and two runs (zero earned) over six innings, striking out five and walking three. Maleea Taga appeared in relief for Broomfield.
