The Eagles walk it off against Highlands Ranch
Broomfield took Saturday’s game in dramatic fashion, with an 8-7 walk-off victory over Highlands Ranch. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the seventh when an error scored one run. Kiley Wheaton collected three hits in four at-bats in the win. Wheaton hit a home run to left field in the first inning, doubled in the third inning, and doubled in the seventh inning. The Eagles opened the scoring in the first after Wheaton homered to left field, scoring two runs.
A single by Jenna Kapelke gave them the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the fourth. Highlands Ranch flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on six hits to take a 7-3 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to left field by Codray that drove in three. In the bottom of the seventh inning, The Eagles went back into the lead after Avery Gines doubled, Elyana Braly singled, Koko Pottorff singled, and Highlands Ranch committed an error, each scoring one run. Maleea Taga earned the win for Broomfield. The reliever gave up three hits and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking one.
Ireland Heer led things off in the circle for the Eagles. They gave up six hits and seven runs (six earned) over five and one-third innings, striking out five and walking one. Broomfield piled up 13 hits in the game. Wheaton and Braly each collected three hits while Kapelke and Gines each collected multiple hits.
